Cost by Repair Type

These are the eight repairs that cover most of what we see on washer service calls around Colorado Springs. Totals include parts and labor.

RepairTypical totalWhat it fixes
Drain pump$180 to $320Washer will not drain, standing water
Drive belt or motor coupling$165 to $275Motor runs, drum does not turn
Lid switch or door lock$175 to $295Fills and agitates, will not spin
Water inlet valve$165 to $280Slow fill, no fill, will not stop filling
Shock absorbers or suspension rods$210 to $360Banging, shaking, walking on spin
Shift actuator$195 to $330No spin on newer top-loaders
Main control board$290 to $520Erratic, stops mid-cycle, powers on and off
Drum bearings or outer tub$400 to $650Grinding on spin, usually replace instead

Top Load vs Front Load

Front-loaders pack more into a tighter cabinet. Reaching a pump, a boot seal, or a bearing often means pulling the front panel and sometimes the drum, so the same part costs more in labor.

  • Top load — lid switch, drive belt, and pump jobs are usually quicker, so they land at the lower end of each range
  • Front load — expect the upper end, especially for boot seal, bearing, and pump work
  • Stackable units — may need the stack separated, which adds labor

When We Will Tell You Not to Repair It

We would rather lose one job than sell you a bad one. We recommend replacement when:

  • The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new machine
  • The machine is over ten years old and needs a major component
  • The drum bearings or outer tub have failed on a sealed plastic tub
  • Gearcase grease is getting into the wash water and marking your clothes
  • The same fault returns a second time on an aging machine

A rough rule that holds up: if the quote is under half of replacement cost and the machine is under about eight years old, repair it. Speed Queen and older heavy-build machines are the exception and are often worth repairing well past ten years.

Pricing Questions

Do you charge if I decide not to repair?

You pay the $89 diagnostic and nothing more. You keep the written quote and the diagnosis, so you can get a second opinion or use it to decide on a replacement.

Is the diagnostic fee applied to the repair?

Yes. If you approve the repair, the $89 comes off the total, so you are not paying twice.

Why is a control board so much more than a pump?

The part itself costs more, and boards are model-specific so there is less interchangeability. On an older machine a board replacement often crosses the 50 percent rule, which is when we tell you to replace instead.

Do you charge extra for nights, weekends, or holidays?

We answer 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Call (719) 601-2233 and we will confirm the price before booking.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

We can give you a likely cause and a range before anyone drives out. The firm number comes after we have tested the machine, because a drain code can mean a clogged filter, a failed pump, or a sensor reading wrong, and those are three different prices.
