Washer Error Code Lookup
Find your code, see what it means, and what to check first. Codes name a symptom, not always the cause — so start with the free checks before replacing anything.
Cannot find your code? Call us with the code on the display and your model number on (719) 601-2233 and we will tell you what it means before anyone drives out.
Try This First. It Is Free.
Before you book anything, unplug your washer for three minutes, then plug it back in. A power cycle clears the control board memory and fixes a surprising number of faults after a power flicker: stuck error codes, a dead panel, a cycle that will not start.
On most Samsung models you can also hold Start for 5 to 10 seconds while the machine is unplugged. If that fixes it, you owe us nothing. If it works once and fails again next week, something is actually broken.
Do not reset. Call instead, if you see:
- Water on the floor
- A burning smell
- Grinding or scraping during spin
- A breaker that keeps tripping
- Standing water that will not drain after a full cycle

Washer Problems We Fix
Washer Will Not Drain
Standing water almost always means a blocked drain pump filter, a kinked drain hose, or a failed pump motor. The usual culprit is a coin, hairpin, or small sock jamming the pump impeller.
Codes: F21 (Whirlpool, Maytag) · 5C or 5E (Samsung) · OE (LG)
Washer Will Not Spin
If the motor hums but the drum stays still, look at the drive belt, motor coupling, or transmission. If it fills and agitates then stops before spin, it is usually the lid switch or door lock. On newer top-loaders, a failed shift actuator does the same thing.
Shaking, Banging, or Walking
Start with the load. Comforters, wet denim, and a pile of towels bunch to one side. If it still shakes on a balanced load: leveling feet out of adjustment, worn shock absorbers, broken suspension rods, or worn drum bearings.
Codes: uL or Ofb (Whirlpool, Maytag) · UE or UB (Samsung, LG)
Washer Leaking Water
Four sources, in the order we check them: a torn door boot seal, loose or cracked hoses, a drain hose pushed too far down the standpipe causing siphoning, and over-sudsing from regular detergent in a high-efficiency machine.
That last one costs nothing to fix. Switch to HE detergent, run two rinses, and see if the leak stops before you pay anyone.
Stops Mid-Cycle or Powers On and Off
This is the fault people most often get diagnosed wrong. A machine that shuts off partway, sits full of water, and powers itself on and off is usually electrical, not mechanical. The main control board or its power supply is failing.
A bad pump stops the cycle too, but a pump does not make a machine power cycle by itself. If someone quoted you a pump for this, get a second opinion.
Door Locked With Clothes Inside
Do not force it. The lock stays engaged while the drum holds water, or when the lock assembly fails mid-cycle. Drain through the pump filter access at the bottom front, then try a reset. If it still will not release, the door lock assembly or its wiring has failed.
Why Washers Fail in Colorado Springs
Most repair sites could be describing any city in America. These are the faults we actually see here, and why.
Damage From a PCS Move
Colorado Springs is home to Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and the Air Force Academy. Moves peak in late spring through summer, and again in winter. Movers reinstall washers fast, and four things go wrong.
- Shipping bolts left in. Front-loaders ship with transit bolts through the back panel that lock the drum. Left in, the machine bangs hard on spin and damages the suspension.
- Bolts not reinstalled for the move out. The drum swings loose in the truck and arrives damaged.
- Machine left unlevel. A garage slab or uneven laundry floor makes it walk.
- Drain hose at the wrong height. Too deep in the standpipe and it siphons. Too high and it will not drain.
If your washer was fine at your last duty station and shakes or will not drain here, this is where we start.
Freeze Damage in Unheated Garages
Colorado Springs averages around 64 inches of snow a year, roughly double the national average, and winter lows sit near 20 degrees. Washers in unheated garages, detached laundry rooms, and unfinished basements are exposed. Water left in the inlet valve, fill hoses, or pump housing can freeze and split. You find out in spring, from a machine that was fine in October.
Before the first hard freeze: shut off the supply valves, disconnect and drain the fill hoses, and run a drain and spin to clear the pump.
Storm-Season Power Surges
We sit at 6,035 feet against the Front Range, which is why summer afternoons here produce fast, violent thunderstorms and hail. Power flickers come with them. Control boards rarely fail outright from a surge. They go erratic instead: unresponsive buttons, cycles that stop partway, a machine that powers itself on and off. A surge protector on the laundry circuit is cheap insurance.

Second-Floor Laundry Rooms
Homes on the north and east sides, in Briargate, Pine Creek, Cordera, Wolf Ranch, Banning Lewis Ranch, and Northgate, commonly put the laundry room upstairs. A slow leak upstairs does not stay upstairs. It shows up as a ceiling stain in the room below, well after the leak started.
If you have upstairs laundry, check behind the machine every few months and replace the fill hoses every five years whether they look worn or not.
Trail Dirt, Pet Hair, and Grit
With around 249 sunny days a year, people here are outside year-round. Trail dust, dog hair, sand, and Fort Carson PT gear all end up in the drum, then in the drain pump filter. If you hike, bike, or have a dog that comes along, clean the pump filter monthly instead of every six months.
Older Homes, Older Hookups
Old Colorado City, the Westside, Knob Hill, the Old North End, Patty Jewett, and Ivywild have housing stock older than the appliances standing in it. Basement laundry, tight closets, aging shutoff valves, and standpipes at the wrong height are common. A machine that keeps having problems in an older home is often fine. The hookup is the problem.
One Thing That Is Not Your Problem
You will read that hard water destroys washing machines. Most of that advice comes from water-softener sales pages, and in this city it is simply wrong.
Colorado Springs Utilities reports hardness of 1.3 to 2.8 grains per gallon. The Water Quality Association classifies anything under 3.5 gpg as soft. For comparison, Denver sits around 4.2 gpg and Pueblo around 10.6 gpg.
The reason is geology. Colorado Springs runs on surface water, largely mountain snowmelt, with a large share diverted from the western slope. It never spends time dissolving limestone in an aquifer, which is what makes water hard.
You may find pages claiming 11 or even 15 grains per gallon here. Those come from water-softener retailers, they contradict each other, and they describe Colorado Springs as drawing from a limestone aquifer, which is not where the city gets its water.
If someone tells you your washer failed because of hard water in Colorado Springs, ask them what the actual number is.

When We Will Tell You Not to Repair It
We would rather lose one job than sell you a bad one. We recommend replacement when:
- The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new machine
- The machine is over ten years old and needs a major component
- The drum bearings or outer tub have failed on a sealed plastic tub
- Gearcase grease is getting into the wash water and marking your clothes
- The same fault comes back a second time on an aging machine
A rough rule that holds up: if the quote is under half of replacement cost and the machine is under about eight years old, repair it.

How We Diagnose Before We Quote
- We ask what it is doing, not just what is wrong. Does it fill? Agitate? Drain? Stop at a specific point? The failure pattern narrows it before we arrive.
- We get the model number. It is on a sticker inside the door, under the lid, or on the back panel. Give it to us on the phone and we bring the likely part on the first visit.
- We read the error code, then verify it. Codes point at a symptom, not always the cause. A drain code can mean a clogged filter, a failed pump, or a pressure sensor reading wrong.
- We test components, not guesses. A pump, a lid switch, and a control board all get tested separately before anything is replaced.
- We quote the whole job. Parts, labor, and warranty in one number, before we start.
We Never Leave a Safety Switch Bypassed
Some machines can be made to run by bypassing the lid switch or door lock. Technicians use bypass tools on the bench to watch a machine operate with the lid open. That tool never leaves with a machine. A washer returned to service without a working lid switch is a hazard to whoever uses it next, and most often that is a child. If a previous repair left yours bypassed, we will tell you and put it right.
Our Process, Start to Finish
Seven steps. No surprises, and no work starts before you have seen the price.
1
You call
Tell us the brand, the model number, and what the machine is doing. Fills but will not spin is a different job from will not power on, and the difference decides which parts ride in the van.
2
We give you a likely cause and a price range
Before anyone drives out. If it sounds like something you can fix yourself in five minutes, we will tell you that on the phone and you will not owe us anything.
3
We book a real arrival window
Not a whole day. We call about 30 minutes ahead so you are not sitting home waiting.
4
We diagnose on site for $89
We test the pump, the switches, and the board separately. Error codes point at a symptom, not always the cause, so we verify before we condemn a part.
5
You get one number before we start
Parts, labor, and warranty in a single quote. If the repair is not worth doing on that machine, we say so and the $89 is all you pay.
6
We fix it and clean up
Most jobs finish in the same visit. Every safety switch goes back working. We take the old part and the packaging with us.
7
You are covered for 90 days
Parts and labor. If the same fault returns inside that window, we come back at no charge.
Brands We Repair
Whirlpool · Maytag · Samsung · LG · GE · Speed Queen · Kenmore · Bosch · Frigidaire · Electrolux · Amana · Hotpoint
A few honest notes:
- Samsung builds excellent electronics, and their washer control boards are the part we replace most on that brand. Owners know this. We will not pretend otherwise.
- Speed Queen is built heavier than most of what is on the market. Repairs are usually worth doing even on older machines.
- Whirlpool and Maytag share a parts platform, so diagnosis and parts availability are straightforward.
- Bosch and Miele need brand-specific parts that sometimes take a few days to arrive.

Washer Repair Questions, Answered

How much does washer repair cost in Colorado Springs?
Most washer repairs in Colorado Springs run $165 to $385 including parts and labor. Our diagnostic fee is $89, and we quote the full price before starting any work.
Cost depends on the part. A drain pump or lid switch sits at the lower end. A control board or drum bearing job sits at the top, and on older machines we will usually tell you to replace instead.
Do you charge for an estimate if I do not go ahead with the repair?
The $89 diagnostic covers the visit, testing, and a written quote. If you go ahead with the repair, it comes off the bill. Either way, you will know the number before we touch anything.
Is it worth repairing a washing machine or should I replace it?
Repair it if the quote is under half the cost of a comparable new machine and the washer is under about eight years old.
Replace it if the machine is over ten years old and needs a major component, if the drum bearings or outer tub have failed, or if grease is getting into the wash water. We will tell you which side you are on before you spend anything.
Is it worth repairing a 10-year-old washer?
Sometimes. A ten-year-old machine that needs a $180 pump is worth fixing. The same machine needing a control board or bearings usually is not.
Speed Queen and older heavy-build machines are the exception. They are often worth repairing well past ten years.
How fast can you get here?
We offer same-day appointments when we have them and next-day when we do not. Call (719) 601-2233 and we will give you a real arrival window, not a whole-day block.
We answer 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, including nights and holidays.
Why is my washer shaking violently after we moved?
Almost always the shipping bolts. Front-load washers ship with transit bolts that lock the drum in place, and if the movers did not remove them the machine bangs hard on every spin.
The other two causes are a machine that is not level on its feet and a drain hose set at the wrong height. All three are common after a PCS move, and all three are quick fixes.
Why will my washer not drain?
Standing water in the drum usually means a blocked drain pump filter, a kinked or blocked drain hose, or a failed pump motor. The most common cause is a coin, hairpin, or small sock jamming the pump impeller.
On front-loaders the filter sits behind a small access panel at the bottom front.
What does my error code mean?
Codes point at a symptom, not always the cause. Common ones on the washers we see here: F21 (Whirlpool, Maytag) for a slow drain. uL or Ofb (Whirlpool, Maytag) for an unbalanced load. Sd (Whirlpool, Maytag) for excess suds. dE (Samsung) for a door not registering as closed. 4C (Samsung) for a water supply problem. 5C or 5E (Samsung) for a drain problem. UE or UB (Samsung, LG) for an unbalanced load. OE (LG) for a drain problem. LE (LG) for a motor locked or overloaded.
Call us with the code on the display and the model number and we will tell you what we think before we come out.
My washer keeps needing a reset. Is that normal?
No. A reset clears the control board memory, which is fine after a power flicker. If you are resetting weekly, the board, the power supply, or a sensor is failing.
Do you repair Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, and Speed Queen washers?
Yes, plus Maytag, GE, Kenmore, Bosch, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Amana, and Hotpoint. Give us the model number when you call and we will bring the likely part with us.
Is Colorado Springs water hard enough to damage my washer?
No. Colorado Springs Utilities reports hardness of 1.3 to 2.8 grains per gallon, and the Water Quality Association classifies anything under 3.5 gpg as soft. Denver sits around 4.2 and Pueblo around 10.6.
The reason is geology. The city runs on surface water, largely mountain snowmelt with a big share diverted from the western slope, so it never sits in a limestone aquifer picking up minerals. If you see pages claiming 11 or 15 grains per gallon here, check who wrote them. They are water-softener retailers, they contradict each other, and they describe Colorado Springs as drawing from groundwater, which it does not.
Hard water is a real problem in some cities. In Colorado Springs it is rarely the reason a washer fails.
How do I know I am not being overcharged?
Ask three questions of any technician, including us: What part failed? How did you test it? What is the total price including labor and warranty?
A technician who can answer all three has done the diagnosis. One who cannot is guessing with your money.
Do you work with landlords and property managers?
Yes. A good share of our work is rental property, especially in Fountain, Security-Widefield, Cimarron Hills, and the older central neighborhoods where laundry hookups date back decades.
How it works for property managers: we schedule directly with your tenant so you are not relaying messages, we send you the diagnosis and the quote before any work starts, and you approve it, not the tenant. Invoicing is per unit with the address and machine model on the line item, so it maps cleanly to your books. Multi-unit visits get scheduled together on one trip.
The 90-day parts and labor warranty applies the same way it does for homeowners. And if a machine in one of your units is past worth repairing, we will say so in writing rather than billing you for a repair that buys you six months.
