Samsung washer being diagnosed during a repair visit in Colorado Springs

Quick Answer

Most Samsung washer faults we see in Colorado Springs fall into three buckets: a door lock that will not confirm closed (dE), a drain restriction (5C or 5E), or a main control board going erratic. The first two are affordable repairs. The third is the one worth thinking about carefully.

Samsung builds excellent electronics, and their washer control boards are the part we replace most on that brand. Owners already know this, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Samsung Error Codes and What They Mean

A code points at a symptom, not always the cause. We verify before condemning a part.

How to Reset a Samsung Washer

Try this before booking anything. It is free and it clears the control board memory, which fixes a surprising number of faults after a power flicker.

  1. Unplug the washer for three minutes.
  2. While it is unplugged, press and hold the Start button for 5 to 10 seconds to discharge residual power.
  3. Plug it back in and run a short cycle.

If that fixes it, you owe us nothing. If you are resetting weekly, something is genuinely failing — usually the board, the power supply, or a sensor.

Do not reset if you see water on the floor, smell burning, hear grinding, or the breaker keeps tripping. Call instead.

Common Samsung Washer Problems

Stops mid-cycle and powers itself on and off

This is the fault Samsung owners most often get diagnosed wrong. A machine that shuts off partway, sits full of water, and powers itself on and off is normally electrical, not mechanical. The main control board or its power supply is failing. A bad drain pump stops the cycle too, but a pump does not make a machine power cycle by itself.

If someone quoted you a pump for that combination of symptoms, get a second opinion.

Door locked with clothes inside

Do not force it. The lock stays engaged while the drum holds water or when the lock assembly fails mid-cycle. Drain through the pump filter at the bottom front, then reset. If it still will not release, the door lock has failed.

Will not drain

Samsung front-loaders have an accessible pump filter behind a small panel at the bottom front. Coins, hairpins, and small socks jam the impeller. See washer not draining.

Will not spin

Fills and agitates but never spins usually means the door lock is not confirming closed. Full detail on our washer not spinning page.

Leaking from the door

The rubber door boot tears or grows mold. Also check for over-sudsing: regular detergent in a high-efficiency Samsung creates a foam head that pushes water past the seal. That one costs nothing to fix.

Is a Samsung worth repairing?

Same rule as any brand: if the quote is under half the cost of a comparable new machine and the washer is under about eight years old, repair it. Where Samsung differs is that a board replacement on an older machine crosses that line more often than on other brands, because the board is the expensive part and it is model-specific.

We will tell you which side of the line you are on before you spend anything. See when we recommend replacement.

Local Factors for Samsung Owners

Power surges and control boards

We sit at 6,035 feet against the Front Range, and summer afternoons bring fast storms with power flickers. Since the control board is already the weak point on this brand, a surge protector on the laundry circuit is genuinely worth the money here.

PCS moves

Samsung front-loaders ship with transit bolts through the back panel that lock the drum. If the movers left them in after your move to Fort Carson, Peterson, Schriever, or the Academy, the machine will bang hard on every spin. Quick fix, and very common in this city.

Unheated garages

Colorado Springs averages around 64 inches of snow a year. Water left in the inlet valve or pump housing can freeze and split. Before the first hard freeze, shut off the supply valves, drain the fill hoses, and run a drain and spin.

Samsung Washer Repair FAQs

What does dE mean on a Samsung washer?

The machine is not registering the door as closed. Check nothing is caught in the seal, then try a reset. If it persists, the door lock assembly or its wiring has failed. Typically $175 to $295 to repair.

What does 5E mean on a Samsung washer?

A drain problem. Start with the pump filter behind the panel at the bottom front. If it is clear, the drain hose is blocked or the pump has failed.

How do I reset my Samsung washer?

Unplug for three minutes, hold Start for 5 to 10 seconds while unplugged, then plug back in. If you have to do this weekly, something is failing.

Why does my Samsung washer turn itself on and off?

That is a control board or power supply fault, not a pump. Boards go erratic rather than failing outright, especially after a power surge.

Are Samsung washers reliable?

The electronics are excellent and the control boards are the part we replace most on this brand. That is a fair summary rather than a criticism — it just means a board quote on an older Samsung deserves a careful repair-or-replace conversation.

Do you repair Samsung front load and top load?

Both, plus stackable units. Give us the model number from the sticker inside the door or on the back panel and we will bring the likely part.

Do you carry Samsung parts?

We carry the common failures — pumps, door locks, inlet valves. Boards and boot seals are model-specific and sometimes take a day or two to arrive.
